& Grant Application Procedures
General
Information for Applicants:
To
be eligible for a grant, the applying organization must provide
evidence of:
- A)
Current Tax-Exempt status from the Internal Revenue
Service (IRS) under Section 501(c)(3) and
- B)
That it is not a Private Foundation under IRS Section
509.
Grants
are made only to organizations that are nondiscriminatory on the
basis of age, disability, race, religion, ethnic origin, gender
and sexual preference.
This
program for which support is requested should offer a
significant response to a demonstrated need in the area of
education or health care. Please note that the Foundation
seeks programs that, in addition to providing valuable services,
have a strategy to measure the positive impact that the proposed
service(s) will provide.
The
Foundation makes a single, annual grant to a given applicant or
program; however, multi-year grants may be considered, depending
on the goals of the project and the results attained.
Grant amounts vary according to the type of project and the
needs of the awardee. The majority of our grants are in
the $2,500 to $10,000 a year range.
Limitations:
In
general, the Foundation will not make contributions to:

Individuals
-
Fundraising
events
-
Organizations
with religious affiliations, unless the program is open to
the entire community without regard to religious beliefs
-
Organizations
and programs designed to influence legislation or elect
public officials
-
Endowment
campaigns or annual fund drives
-
Fraternal
organizations
-
Organizations
outside of southern California
How
to apply:
Please
submit your grant applications together with the following
required attachments:

An
introductory letter describing the purpose and amount of
your request
-
A
narrative (no more than 3 pages double-spaced) describing
when your organization was founded, its history, objectives
and those with whom you partner
-
Your
organization's 501(c)(3) tax exemption letter from the
Internal Revenue Service, together with the IRS letter
stating that your organization is not classified as a 509
Private Foundation; also a copy of your California Franchise
Tax Board exemption letter

Your
organization's most recent audited financial statements or,
if not available, a copy of your most recent IRS 990 or
990EZ return
-
An
operating budget and project budget (if available)
-
A
list of other funding sources for this request; please
indicate whether funding is committed, pending or received
from the additional source(s)

A
list of your organization's Board of Directors and their
community and professional affiliations
-
An
evaluation plan: What outcomes you hope to achieve with the
help of this grant? How will results be measured?

Any
recent printed materials, including an annual report, media
clippings, etc.

The
Foundation makes grants twice a year, in June and
December. Deadlines for submitting grant proposals are:
April 15th and October 15th. Applicants will be notified
by June 15th and December 15th.
